When playing in a single elimination tournament for Hive, it regularly occurs that a draw creates confusion regarding who advances.

1) Is the rule for advancing consistent and published somewhere?
2) Can a change be made where an additional game could be played when a single elimination game ends in a draw?
3) Can an option be created where single elimination tournaments can choose 2 games with each match (each player playing 1 game as White and 1 game as Black). Games could be simultaneous.

We just had this come up as well, and it would be nice to see a response regarding this.

We just had a first round tournament game of Hive end in a draw and the person who advanced had:
- the same ELO as their opponent
- first turn
- triggered the game end

I have no idea which of those contributed to the decision for who advanced.

I can't say for sure, but the best guess I've seen so far is that it goes by thinking time: whoever has more time left on the game clock appears to win the draw.

I can confirm that this is incorrect.

I'm quite sure that in the case that there isn't a clear tie breaker defined by the rules of the game, it's the player with the oldest join date who wins. So he or she who has been around on BGA the longest.

Well that's quite the sad affair. This question has been in the forums for years, and BGA just won't give an official answer.
