Don't activate chat unless there are NEW messages available

Hi,
Often when I enter into a game to make my move the chat pops up and a message alert sound is played (this happens only if there are messages present in the chat). However, I think it would be better if that chat only activates if there are NEW messages available (to be clear the chat activates every time even if here are only OLD messages that I have already read). I find it distracting and somewhat annoying that the chat calls for my attention when I open up a game, even if no new messages are available.
