We now allow you to change your BGA username, and/or to take over the username from an inactive account.

We hadn't implemented this feature before, because it was difficult to realize technically. But for some cases we found out that it was useful to provide a - limited - feature to change your username, so we changed our mind on this.

Each account on BGA is now allowed to change its username ONCE (from Preferences / Account). It is really only possible ONCE, so do it carefully.

In addition, if you ever wanted to have a specific username but couldn't because it was taken by an inactive account created years ago, you can now get it by using this feature (except if the current owner refuses to release it, of course).

This is nice. Sometimes we get tired of our old user name. But, will reputation still track with the new name?

Everything remains with the new name of course, including reputation.

And during 6 months your old username remains on your profile page to make sure everyone understand what happens.

Thank you. When I registered under my facebook account, I didn't have a choice to pick my username. I appreciate this option. BTW, that image is unsettling.

Did you give a parameter as to how long an inactive name has to be inactive before another person can use it??

That is great news! Thank you! I get MANY comments on my user name and it will be nice to change it. Well, once I figure out what it will be. I assume this will also affect our login?

What length of time defines an inactive account? The one I wanted was created 1yr 9 days ago and was last seen 12 months ago.
