Getting bid back

I bet 5$ and paid 3$. I should have paid only 2$ according to the rules.

Am I wrong?

Oh I can see that the English rules say the opposite...

There are several versions of the game available which use either the round-up or the round-down rule. Here on BGA you can create a game using either variant.

For what it's worth: according to Stefan Dorra, the game's designer, the rule should be to round-down (so you get back $2).

I used to play the game extensively with rounded-down returns, but when the new rules came out, I found them better, as they keep more money in the game and make bids higher and hence auctions more tense.
