When did the rules change and allow aces to be high? Can this be made a variant that can be turned on or off? Personally I like aces just to be low.

I agree with all the changes made to Machiavelli to prevent hoarding, but I still think that the option to have aces both high and low or just low should be an optional setting that can be chosen by the host. Perhaps make aces both high and low as the default, with aces just low as an alternative option.
