The King's Guild

We have the great pleasure today to bring online a new game that fans of Splendor will probably like a lot! The King's Guild, a limited supply trading and set collection game designed by Matthew Austin and published by Mirror Box Games, is now available on Board Game Arena.

Play it now!

In the King's Guild, you'll take the lead of one of the powerful guilds of Greycastle, competing to gain the most influence in order to get its leader (hopefully you) in a dominant position to succeed the dying King!

So what does a Guild do? First, you need to stock natural resources in your warehouses. Then you need to earn fame and money. Both of these can be earned by crafting specialty items to help adventurers on their quests! In return for this service, you'll get money, and a share of the treasures earned on the quest, that you'll be able to use to further expand the power of your guild. When you have enough money, you'll be able to invest it to build some new rooms to expand your guildhouse, and to hire specialists to gain new abilities.

But resources are in limited supply, and other guilds will be collecting them too! You'll need to plan for your future needs, and if possible hold on to some rare resources to block your opponents from getting them in their moment of need. Nothing personal here, the throne is hanging in the balance!

A fair share of the end of game points can be scored through the Master Rooms which offer various scoring objectives. You'll need to buy them just at the right moment, when you know already that your strategy will allow you to get a lot of points from them, but before one of your opponent snatches the one you want right from under your nose!

The King's Guild is a fast paced game with simple rules offering a deep and varied gameplay thanks to multiple sources of tension between the players and a lot of possible combinations to upgrade your guild. Fortunately, a Solo mode is available to allow you to discover the game and get familiar with its many possibilities before challenging other players... Or after losing to them, in order to prepare for your next encounter!

For the King's Guild, we would like to give many thanks to the publisher Mirror Box Games for offering us the possibility to adapt the game, and to the developer Adam Novotny (A-dam) who lovingly crafted this adaptation on BGA studio, with a lot of skill and care! If you love the game, you can buy it directly from Mirror Box Games on their online store here.

To learn the game, we would like to recommend the following enthusiastic video review from the Dice Tower. So will you manage your Guild to prominence, or to extinction?

Hey,

Really excited to see this game on here!

A few bugs I have found:
Buying the 6 gold two merchant place and being charged 12 gold.
Not being able to pass in the final round because I did not have a sigil (we had to collectively abandon)
being awarded all the symbols when you are not the one who gets to keep the card
number of cards held in hand is misrepresented and sometimes negative
gold not always being placed on merchants when special actions are taken

Again happy to see a fun new game, needs a little work though!

double rooms have two sides, one is woth 6 gold the other 12 gold, are you sure you did not select the more expensive one?

You cannot pass your turn, you have to so something. In your last turn, if you dont have sigils, you are not allowed to make Offering to the council, but you can (and you must) take one of the regular action.

Honestly, absolutely no idea what about are you talking :) if you mean when you finish quest where other player had sigil, than it is exactly what is written in the rules

Gold is placed only on specialist (dont know what you mean by merchants) when other specialist is baught and it is not the one on the most right position

Hello,

yes it gave me the 6 gold one but charged 12. This may be the only actual glitch

I understand that. Possible that I could have gathered? Seems like an obvious thing to have tried, but maybe I didn't?

I believe I got this rule wrong, game is correct.

Yes, when a special action allows you to buy a *specialist* gold is not being placed to the specialists on the right. I understand now, the discount is only applied if the specialist is bought at cost.

My game is currently glitched. It gave me spinning wheels and then wouldn't load. It still will not load. I tried buying the person that let me do a free craft action, and before I did that I played a treasure card that doubled the treasure for crafting that round. I'm hoping I'll be able to play my other games as I'm not sure how to quit this game.

Sorry for this, it was caused by fixing another bug. It is ok now. You dont need to quit, you can just continue playing..

My games (I have 2 going) takes forever to load. And than doing anything takes a long time as well. I game is a good game but all the lag makes the game nearly impossible to play (for me)

Hi, I checked both games and they load quickly for me (desktop computer, good connection). Could you please give more info on your context? The best would be to fill a bug report for "slow loading" with relevant info (duration of the loading, browser and device you use, if you are using a landline, wifi or mobile connection). Thanks a lot!

Just played a card - Oak Branches - it said I would receive 3 wood, but I only got 2. Did I miss something or is this a glitch?
