Change of username

When a possibility to change username was announced some time ago, I tried to change it to one already taken, but inactive for several years and without any game played. That user then logged in and refused the change. I waited another year during which he didn't log once and tried again, the same result. My question is, wouldn't it be better to give user only one chance to refuse and if the inactivity continues, enable the others to take the username? The reasoning behind my proposal is: isn't it better to have happier regular user at a risk of angrying one, who is logging only to eefuse the change once a year?

Hello Herald,
did you try to contact that other user? Maybe they don't know what's happening and only receive a mail that somebody tries to take over their name. Then they probably assume somebody is trolling them and refuse the change. Try to talk with them, if that name is important for you.
Personally, I wouldn't like it if somebody wanted to take over my user name, even if I didn't play for some time. I have friends, there are people who know me (for better or worse), and if "Robo65" suddenly represents another player, that's an important change. But that's just me.
Good luck

Robo

As I wrote, this player (let's be precise
https://boardgamearena.com/player?id=2119989) has never played any game, has no friends, no activity... I tried twice to take the name and he twice refused, but then doesn't log again for another year. I don't think account can be more inactive than that
So to make clear why I'm writing this: maybe in such (individual) cases there could be some "admin override" for which user could apply?

This player received a message explaining that you wanted his username, and that he just have to login to keep it.
He chooses to keep it.

Yes, I know how the process works. I was just trying to make a proposal to enhance the options in favor of more active players. But it seems to me you don't understand my point, because you haven't made any comments on my proposal, you are just repeating me the standard process.
