Is there a logical explanation why my opponents completed objectives kept disappearing? It happened twice, so he got frustrated and we abandoned the game. Is this something in the rules that I don't know about, or something we were doing that caused it, or what?

Could you provide a little explanation of what you mean by disappearing? Did the objective card completely vanish with no update in score?

When an objective is complete during your turn, you must click on the card to claim it. (There's strategy in not claiming certain cards immediately, but that discussion is best done in another thread.) The card should then move from your working area (immediately under the game board) to the bottom of the screen into completed tasks. You will probably have to scroll down to see its new position. The score gets updated, and if it was a bamboo eating task, the bamboo is removed from your player area (returned to the supply).
