Is this a bug? If so I'll report it...

We tried several times but the game always assigned the neutral traveller the same colour as me. We could not tell the two meeples apart so couldn't play.

It said it had changed my colour according to my preferences but the colour it gave me was not one of my four preferences.

That does seem to be a bug. According to the rules, the neutral traveler should always be grey, but then the game should know not to give grey to either of the players.

Perhaps grey is mapped to another color that does appear in your preferences, like black? (I can't see your preferences)

Either way, that would only be a work-around. This should be reported as a bug.

Hi Pinkteapot, the bug has been reported many times here https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=11625 I hope you all can vote the bug, and hope the BGA guys can fix it. I´m not playing tournamentes or 2 players games because I usually confuse myself with grey player. Of course my color preference is not grey, but the game says that
