I am a newbie. I am thinking about getting a premium subscription and playing with friends. I am wondering, does everyone have to have a premium subscription in order to use the video chat feature? Will it work if only one person has a premium subscription?

Only premium users can start and invite people, but anyone can be invited.

Yes. So long as the premium user creates the audio/video chat.
