How do you assign wild symbol dice?

Hey all, seems that when I play, the wild symbol always goes to explore. In the regular game, you can assign them to any column.
What am I not doing?

After you pick your player role for the turn, you can just click on the wild dice and then click another column and it will go there. I assume it just starts in the explore column so that they didn't have to make another column just for wild dice.

After picking what you wanna do this round, you can put the wild symbol dice wherever you want
