I can't figure out why I get 0 points for some games, versus others. And in general I don't understand how ELO works for a cooperative game. Can someone please clarify?

Hi,
concerning Hanabi, the variant in hard mode with the 6th color with only 5 cards is not managed in Elo point. All the participants always take 0 ELO points. All the other variants of Hanabi is managed in Elo points.

If you are playing training mode, you get zero elo points.

If you are a Master playing 3p games, sometimes the fraction of elo points received is so small that it is seen rounded as +0 points (also in case if the if you get some minus small points in non-max score). It can be rarely seen in high elo tables on other player count.

When elo is calculated, it is based on some factors depending on average table elo (elo of all players, not sure how exactly it is recalculated later for each player) and variant. I don't know the exact numbers nor the formula.

i heard it from someone who claimed to made hanabi elo system that getting elo on hanabi depends on the the elo of the persons you play with the difference of the original elo is important ex if youre elo is 950 and the other player is 980 you may get just +1 elo at 30 point but if youre elo is 950 and the other player elo is 300 you may get +7 elo at the end of the 30 point game and i looked and it works like that it goes for you got 950 elo the other player has 1500 elo too you get +5 elo then too

To be clear:

The ELO is averaged over all players.
That average ELO is compared against a fictional opponent ELO which is different for 2,3,4,5 and per variant and is basically a table.
I believe I've seen that table once, but can't find it back now.

All players get exactly the same ELO gain or loss after a game, however the rounding to whole numbers sometimes makes it look different.

ELO gain/loss is capped at 10 points. (unless in first games, where you have a multiplier on, which also causes those with the multiplier to get different gains than their teammates.)
