One common variation used in every version of Mafia/Werewolf I’ve ever seen is the option of not revealing player roles upon death, or only revealing their team affiliation (in this case it would simply be “Werewolf” or “Townsfolk”). This would go a long way in terms of making role claiming a much less foolproof tactic, especially in high player count games.
I wouldn’t think this would be too hard to implement, and it really would add a whole new dimension to this excellent game.
