Board Game Arena

Hello all,

I am very pleased to announce that Le Barbu is now in Beta and accessible by any player on BGA.

You can play from 3 to 5 players (4 is the best configuration). You can also choose to play with a 32-cards or a 52-cards deck.
And last but not least, you can play in geronimo mode, in which every player will choose the hand he wants to play.

Big thanks to the alpha testers, reviewers and BGA Admins for all this great stuff and all the tests.

Vous pouvez jouer de 3 à 5 joueurs (4 reste la configuration idéale). Vous pouvez jouer avec un jeu de 32 ou de 52 cartes.
Et surtout, vous pouvez jouer en mode "geronimo", où chaque joueur joue toutes les manches et choisit au début de chaque manche ce qu'il veut jouer en fonction de son jeu.

Un grand grand merci aux alpha-testeurs (et ceux qui ont joué une première partie qui n'a pas réussi à déclencher la victoire...), aux reviewers et aux excellents Admins BGA.

I joined one game, and one player soon quit. Two comments:

1) Display the chosen contract more prominently. I was wondering 'what happens next' before I finally noticed the contract 'No Tricks' listed at the top.
Bigger font, red, something like that. And maybe log it in the log. (Perhaps these are bells and whistles that you already plan to add; I realize it's only Beta.)

2) As a kid 50 years ago, I played the commercial version of this, Coup d'Etat, put out by Parker Brothers. It's been a long time, but I don't remember the doubling stuff that your Wikipedia linked rules mention. If the doubling stuff is not part of your game, you might want to link to something that actually reflects your game. But perhaps doubling is part of your game, in which case no problem.

I'm looking forward to trying it with players that don't immediately quit. Thanks!

Very nice display and fun game to play! I enjoyed it and will play more games (with the default options however). I love the way the hands are played out and the suits in the corners.
But I also have one 'complaint' ...

The option to choose all contracts for all players (geronimo) gives very long games even in real-time play. I think our game took 30+ mins despite all players playing fast and we did not even choose Anti-salade and Domino. Another players also said they were bored already half way into the game!

Sure, it gives the best players a much bigger advantage, but in my opinion it can be modified some. An idea would be to have only two contracts chosen randomly by the server plus the Salade.

j'ai pu faire quelques parties et je n'ai pas observé de bug.
Les surprises (pour moi) : qu'on puisse jouer coeur quand on a une autre couleur en main dans les deux options : pas de coeur et barbu.
Du coup le barbu tombe très vite : le premier qui prend la main et a une longue à coeur fait tomber le barbu. Ca ne permet guère de jouer contre celui qui est en tête. Mais bon , je m'adapte

La réussite : j'ai toujours joué celui qui choisissait cette option choisissait librement quelle carte on posait en premier du 2 à l'As. Je trouve ca très gênent de se voir imposé de démarrer au 2.

Pour répondre au post précédent, c'est vrai que jouer "géronimo" fait une partie longue : en gros 4xparties plus d'une heure, mais c'est super de pouvoir choisir l'option en fonction de son jeu, ca change tout.
Le jeu est vraiment plus intéressant,je trouve.

Good, I played this game before.
But I think at least "player choose hand type" should be active in arena, that cause more hands and less luck. When only a set of 5 hands played, lots of luck

je rejoins les autres, il y a un gros gap entre le mode normal et le mode geronimo... On peut se "faire avoir" facilement quand on rejoint une table sans faire attention.

I've already developed a few of your requests:

• You can play Domino and choose the starting value

• You have an extra game mode between regular and geronimo: you can play multiple standard hands (2 or 3 times instead of 1)

Still working on:

• Shouldn't play hearts when no hears were discarded

• Make zombie mode work

• Doubling functionality

I can't choose the Arena mode but you can try to choose with the gear at the left of the game icon.

J'ai déjà fini (et mis en prod) certaines de vos idées :

• En mode geronimo, le preneur choisit le démarrage du domino

• Nouveau mode de jeu : possibilité de jouer plusieurs fois toutes les manches standards (genre 2 ou 3 fois)

J'ai dans les tuyaux :

• Ne pas pouvoir jouer coeur avant de l'avoir défaussé

• Faire marcher le mode zombie pour les joueurs qui quittent trop tôt

• Développer le système de "doubling" que je ne connaissais pas

N'hésitez pas à voter sur https://boardgamearena.com/bugs?game=1197 pour les fonctionnalités qui vous plaisent le plus (ou en créer pour que tout le monde vote).

Make Geronimo Barbu a separate game. I really like Geronimo Barbu, but its length is annoying people. People who want the usual 20 minute game are annoyed at a 1.5 hour game. Yes, they can avoid it using Preferences, but too little people are aware of that. Plus Geronimo is a much more strategic game than vanilla Barbu. They feel more different than, say, Coinche and belote, which have separate entries in bga.

By the way, the new and improved Domino is great.

J'adore ce jeu. J'y jouais quand j'étais enfant avec mes parents et j'ai découvert ainsi le monde des cartes. Un grand merci donc pour cet ajout plein d'émotions et de souvenirs pour moi.

J'ai un seul regret : que le mode arena ne comporte pas lantisalade et le domino. On a l'impression d'avoir une moitié de jeu... et l'ajout de ces deux options n'allonge pas exagérément les parties.

I think the game plays beautifully.
I do think it would be helpful if the rules link more closely matched the default setup.

I was initially very confused--having never played but learning from the link, when playing trump didn't work the 'same way' and there was no doubling etc.

Might be worth writing out an entry of your own--editing existing rules etc.
