Connect four tournament: Your suggestions

Hi everybody who is reading this and a special Hi to all Connect four lovers out there, 
Not yet has there been any Connect four tournaments. I think we can have well filled tournaments, but we need ideas to fill them.
Please give suggestions on good some format for Connect Four Tournament(s) ...
I was wondering if a monthly tournament could work and do you think there will be enough players to join it?
I am hopeful.
These tournaments can start every month the 4th (easy to remember).
Maybe a "try out" tournament to see the interest first?
At the moment there are constantly around 500 games being played during the day. So we see if this number will increase or decrease in the future years.
(Just a detail that has not really anything to do with tournaments, but good to notice).
Of course this does not in any way mean other can start tournaments any time they want but this could be kind of "official" - or not. Maybe some XP price if the moderators give their approval.
Other suggestions or input on this idea?

I wanted to do this properly before I eventually may start a tournament.
