In the game ranking, there are players with high ELO but if you click to see their profile, it says "This player does not exist or his account has been closed".
Why do they still appear then ?

I agree. Individuals banned or found guilty of using other accounts to boost their ELO should have their rating reset and the rating-based trophies stripped. Games such as Buttons and Chess have leaders who have done this, making it essentially impossible to gain the top spot legitimately.
