Addition problem with scoring

It is my understanding that: 8 + 1 = 9... yet according to Takenoko it equals 10.
I was playing a game with one other person, so the last round is triggered at 10. I had 8 cards completed, then completed number 9 but it went immediately to 10, triggering final round. Why is this?
Also, where do I find the table number?

For your games, check on your history of games played.

Once someone gets to 9 cards completed:
1. They get a card for finishing first, worth 2 points. (basically a 4points swing)
2. The game ends

This is incorrect. For Takenoko, (players + cards) = 11 for end of game. So for 2 players, the last round is triggered at 9. (Page 8 of the rule book)

Thank you everyone, I mixed up 2 player and 3+ player games which have a different card trigger.
