Abandonning instead of conceding

Hi,
So you are playing with someone who need to leave because of any reason.
So you abandon the game, everyone vote yes, and everything is fine, yes?
No.

The karma thing has already an extra place for this kind of absences, and so by abandonning, you let the person which goes away too much having a 100% karma.
Best is to force that person to concede. If it really happen only once or twice, that person will still be able to join any game, and that will not be a problem for him.

Thoughs?

That's a bit assholeish imo. I generally give the person the benefit of doubt if the person needs to abandon because he has to go. However, if there are cards lost/bombs there I would mark it and I would be less likely to allow abandon next time and more leaning toward turning it into turnbase, so players don't conveniently use "have to go" excuse to elo boost.

I know that's counter intuitive. I don't do it myself because of that.

But nobody care when someone have 90 karma. So it's just fine if you force him to concede.

Pretty sure if karma was hidden when it's above >70%, you would have less regrets about forcing him to concede.

And btw, that's bad for the person, but better for the website in general. Don't forget that abandonning have the drawback to let that person abandon more games and will ruin others player's games too.
But yeah humans on general are stupid :D You don't want to make that person sad by forcing him to concede. And this person will be sad if you do so. So yeah that's a good argument for you there. So you abandon :(

Nah, real life takes precedence. I don’t want to tempt a player to stay in the game when they’ve got something to take care of.

Furthermore, I do want to incentivise players to say something when they have to drop out. I’d much rather have someone tell me they have to go than be sitting there waiting for their clock to run down, wondering what happened. A little courtesy is enough to earn some back from me.

If players are doing this as a strategy to get their ratings up, it’ll get noticed soon enough, and the karma system is harsh enough for it to catch up to them pretty quickly.

Yes, you are right and mature to go into a Hanabi cooperative game with a cooperative mentality.

Some folks think that Jesus died and made them judge, jury, executioner to pass judgement on others.
Then go into a cooperative game with the attitude of superiority to romain other people's game.
I mean, 'ruin' other people's game.

Then they justify that if concede, it would only cost player a few elo points.
An abandon game does not increase any players' elo.
Further more If it was only a few elo, then why would abandon be an issue? It's has zero elo gain.

If only there were more players as mature as you, going into a cooperative game with the right attitude:- cooperative.

Ok I think I finally understood you.
Who talked about elo? But I was able to check, conceding instead of abandonning cost some elo for the person who conceded, didn't knew that.

You just didn't seem to get the point of the post. It's not about elo. It's the fact there is a karma thing. If everyone was abandonning lots of game of bga, we would never got people be low in karma because they conceded too much.
Why should it be different for Hanabi?

And I dunno know why you said my name in your post. It's not related since I said myself I wasn't doing that.

Small follow up, I saw more (different) people abandon a game recently because they need to leave.

It could totally be 'variance', or it could be linked to what I said here. Since abandonning isn't punished, people are more likely to start a game because 'If I finally need to leave, np, we will abandon'.

Btw, when I need to leave in Hanabi, I concede. Just because it doesn't seem right for me to goes away like that.

But, considing victory is way more harch To masters.
Like -20 elo reduced when You are at 714? You don't wanted To lose your master's classification.
