Same problem and I'm premium

I am also a premium member but cannot start the game. I keeping the error message "You must raise the maximum number of players at this table"

I don't see any way to do this as I never get to the screen that allows me to do this.

Can anyone help?

You're trying to start a game with 5 or 6 players in "friend" mode, am I right?
RftG is part of the games where the maximal number of players depends on the expansions that are enabled. In particular, the base game only supports 4 players.

You need to first start at game at 4 players or less, then change the options to enable some expansions (I don't remember which increase the player count and which doesn't), then raise the maximum number of players, then invite the remaining friends.

[This might be worth a bug report, I've not checked if that's already reported]
