Disconnected due to inactivity

I always log out and when I log in the next time, I get a message that I've been disconnected because of inactivity. There used to be an option to disconnect, but it's been removed.

You are connected whether you are logged in or not.
You can stay logged-in, just close the tab. Or even more simply - just click the inactivity button.

I am getting a modal dialog asking if i want to always stay connected. What does this mean?
