Option for fixed time limit with automatic disqualification

While playing in a Rapid Carcassonne tournament, many players (including myself, unintentionally) exceeded their fixed time limit and so gained an unfair advantage.

Would it be possible to add an option to have a fixed time allotted per player, where a player automatically loses the game if they exceed their time limit?

Although in theory it is possible to kick a player off if they exceed their allocated time, I think (but do not know for sure) that the current situation is that if they keep making their next move within 20 seconds of their opponent trying to kick them off then they still stay in the game.

Although this was for Carcassonne, I am sure it would be a useful option for many games where playing against the clock can be an enjoyable element.

If one player has automatically lost then are they expected to keep playing? Or does the game end?

Because if they have already lost but have to keep playing, what's to stop them kingmaking?
