Communication on private chat

I don't think many players know how to talk in private with other members. I've discovered it on my own and I find it very handy, but people I chat with in private tell me they don't know how to answer in private.
Could you guys
- implement a simple way to open a private chatroom, e.g. by typing @nickname in the "Chat with everyone" text field and/or, for the player being hailed in private, clicking on a red arrow nearby the hailer's private message?
OR
- communicate better about the way to chat with someone in private?
For now, to do this, I:
- visit the player's profile
- use the "Chat with [nickname]" text field
- for more convenience, I click on the icon that appears when I mouse over that text field, to detach a private chat window
This is quite a long process and a few people may feel too lazy to go through this everytime.
