Reset of the ELO system once per year

Lots of people abused the ELO system in the past and currently.
Sure arena is fine but there are those games where you an just make a game and abuse its mecahanics to grind exp and elo.
Can we have a clean state once a while?

Yes, it would be absolutely great to lose all legitimate progress we have ever made on a game, only to duplicate the effect of arena mode.....
Oh, wait a second....
Yes, there are those that have abused ELO in the past (and continue to do so). Yes, there are those that have abused arena rankings in the past (and continue to do so, although there is more scrutiny there now). If you want to claim a high ranking in a game compared to other players, use arena mode. If you want to find an opponent at a similar skill level as yourself, use ELO as it was originally intended, and don't worry about the few players whose ELO doesn't match their skill at the game.

My problem is with the point hoarders who use those unlegitimate ways and hoard points then never play again or play once a month vs extremely weak opponents for easy win.
Just check the guy on first place in Noar. Do you really think he got it legitimately from winning like it is inteded?

So what is the issue?
If you are worried about who is in first place, that's what the arena is for. That has the reset every season.
For more thoughts on why ELO shouldn't be reset, read the discussions for when arena mode was being developed.

Indeed, you have to accept that the current ELO system is heavily exploitable, and at the top of most games you can find players that have abused it. Resetting is a poor way to handle fixing it, as all the issues will just re arise. If one really wanted to make the ELO system work right you'd have to make a whole host of changes....
Which is a lot of what arena does solve. (not perfectly, but it's quite close).
Yes the site still awards badges for top ELO performers and in some games you cannot legitimately get them....but I've learned that they seem to have way too many other things going on to care about fixing/changing anything. I think resetting ELO every year brings about far too many other issues and that the arena system largely achieves what you're asking for here anyhow.
