Constructive feedback

Howdy,
I don't think it's a good sign that the other feedback thread was locked. We need a way to give developers constructive positive and negative feedback, and also discuss the features as users, players and subscribers, such as:
a) isn't a bug as such,
b) recognises, and thanks the fixes (like the ipad fix, yay!)
c) is a bug but has been registered and still benefits from feedback (eg. best way of addressing it?)
d) UI feedback on improvements that may not be bugs, but may be quality of life.
Firstly, congrats on introducing the new gameplay features! And much of the thinking and objectives behind the UI is great, despite those things that do need improvement, are being improved, and hopefully will continue to be improved
I appreciate the developers may find it hard to read that people don't like the UI elements, but we all have to be prepared to consider and discuss what is in the best interests of playability of the game, and the contribution of that to BGA

Perhaps some polling on possibly UI changes would help address those things.
So let's keep it constructive and take it from here!
Cheers,
B

You can do suggestions too when you report a 'bug':

I created couple of bugs related with new interface. Please vote.
Some may call it suggestions, but to me they are bugs - interface acting against the spirit of the game* - suggesting moves
(* - I think its even against its written rules too)
"CLUE OPTIONS SUGGESTING A PLAYER WHAT TO CLUE - BAD"
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=27693
"GAME DIDN'T END AUTOMATICALLY WHEN IT SHOULD"
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=27692
And other that I recommend upvoting.
"RED TOKENS (MISTAKES) ARE NOT SHOWN IN NEW INTERFACE"
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=27652
"MOVE THE DISPLAY OF DISCARDS UP FURTHER."
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=27688
"CHANGE THE NEW WAY TO CLUE"
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=27665

If you look at the amount of open bugs on that page, adding into that list does almost nothing to fix the issue. What we need is to have some vocal power to say what is wrong, so the recent topics are the better solution than adding another feature suggestion.
The number 1 thing to fix is to improve giving clues to the players. I see 2 solutions to this:
1. Bring back the static clue buttons. Then you always know where to choose the correct clue from and which user to click. More often, you already know what clue you want to give to the player after he finishes his turn. So you can move your cursor to the right place to save time.
2. Do not let us click on a specific card. Let us click on the PLAYER that we want to give a clue to. And then the pop-up should display ALL the numbers and colors (as before) so we could VISUALLY and instinctively click on the next button.
3. Let us choose whether we want clue -> player or player -> clue version.
Reading the clues every time is NOT OK! This is making games much, much slower. More experienced players (100+ games) will not want to waste time on handling the UI. And catering to players for those first 10-20 games to get them to play is not worth it. Most of them would probably not play in the long term either so why cater to them rather than the Hanabi fans?
Also, no-one really wants "around the board" view for Hanabi. It is a very dry game that needs all the simple information to be displayed in a line. It just makes much more sense this way.
I'm being constructive but I am trying to catch your attention with a meme. Deal with it.

This is wrong.
I know some players which only play with it (which isn't my case).
I don't know at which proportion though.

I have had to teach maybe 10 players to start using the old stacked version because around the board is very confusing. Especially in 2 player games. "Why are your cards coming to the right and mine to the left?" This is just horrible. It messes with your brain.

I get that they want to make it like you are sitting at a real table, but for some reason my brain can't compute the relative positions of the cards (as it seems many others can't.) I feel like I am using all my brainpower trying to keep straight whose cards go which way and which ones are new/old and can't put any brainpower to strategizing with the around the table view. Can you explain how to get to the setting to make it stacked? I've looked everywhere and I can't find where to change that setting.
Edit: Also, I'd argue it makes the game less accessible to new players. It's hard to explain the cluing convention when everyone's cards come in at a different spot, forget trying to explain more advanced techniques like finesse.

As a senior software engineer and development team lead (not for BGA) I can assure you that you do not need any more vocal power. The developers already have plenty of feedback.
There comes a point where dealing with additional feedback distracts developers from getting the work done. I’ve seen teams get so snowed under acknowledging client requests that actually implementing anything slows to a crawl.
By now, I expect the Hanabi developers to have decided what their top priority for improvements are, and to be working through them. Some fixes may have been deemed high enough priority to be released as soon as they are ready, while others may wait until they have completed a full set of changes or reach the end of a time box. Either way, your additional feedback won’t be looked at until they are done with that and ready to prioritise new work (and once they are, having the feedback in a list of tickets is more useful than wading through forums to find it.
Unless it’s really groundbreaking. But so far, it’s not.
What you
want is to feel heard. I get that. Clients always want to be acknowledged, and each client wants that individually, not just from an update bulletin. But with limited capacity in a team, you’ll either get acknowledgement or features/bug fixes, not both.

If you scroll down below the cards, click options, then “players hand layout”. Cheers!
