How are ties broken in single elimination tournaments?

Post by SudburyGamer »

Does anyone know how ties are broken in single elimination tournaments? For a while I thought that the player with higher ELO advanced, but just tied a player with lower LEO and he advanced to the next match.

thinking time remaining.

Which, if it's a turn-based tourney, is a bit arbitrary unfortunately.

This is true in all tourneys, btw. If the rules don't specify a tie-breaker, or if the tie-breaker results in still a tie, it's broken with thinking time. Games outside of tourneys are allowed to remain tied.
