So, I have this string that I want to translate to Swedish:
${player_name} has ${qty} more worker(s) adjacent to temples

I have read the FAQ translating on BGA, https://boardgamearena.com/faq?anchor=faq_translations , and I end up with this translation:
sek{spelarnamn} har sek{st} fler arbetare bredvid tempel.
sek is short for "Svenska kronor" instead of Dollars. And all other words, including those inside brackets, have been translated to Swedish.

Somehow, I do not think this is correct. I guess a better translation would be to keep (what I perceive as)variables and symbols as is. Resulting in:
${player_name} har ${qty} fler arbetare bredvid tempel.

Am I correct in guessing that variables and symbols shouldn't be translated?
And if so: How come none of this is written in the FAQ and is there perhaps a more comprehensive guide to Translating that I'm missing?

Try inputting your first translation and you'll immediately learn.

But you're right, variables (anything between a dollar sign and curly braces, i.e. ${}) and symbols (including currencies) should remain untranslated. If a dollar sign is followed by a variable, it will show up as $${variable_name} in the original string. So your second translation is correct.

It would be better if it were in the FAQ as well, though.

Also, what should we do if it appears a variable or parameter is not translated ?

Things get even more confusing when developers use other characters, like brackets.
Sometimes brackets are just brackets, or they're used to denote bold text, and what's inside should be translated.
But sometimes brackets are used in place of icons, and what's inside should not get translated.
