I like the new UI, but what happened to the lives/misfire counter? Currently can't tell how many misfires you've done on the new UI? Unless I'm missing something.

It is that thing that is hiding behind the played tiles.

Ok yeah - see it now - we must have played 5-6 games and not noticed that until you pointed it out! It definitely needs a token or something like the old version because it's not at all a good representation of the game state on its own.

Came here to request this feature. Is the misfire the little block box on that screenshot? Super not obvious.

No, it's the red glow on the left side (the left third) of the board. Each misfire covers a third of the board.
