Board Game Arena

So, currently there are two ways of categorizing games you have played:

- Favorites
- Non-favorites

There are some games that I've played once, and aren't really as interested about, but could be interested in playing them again. But there are also other games which I despise and I wouldn't want to play them again. They clutter up the Non-favorites category, especially since I have played over 100 different games on the site. It would be great if there was a way to hide them.

Make us being able to lie to bga by just saying we never played that game if that's possible.

Not sure if I think a disliked games category is the right appraoch, but I broadly agree that we need something to make the games page a bit more digestible, for new players as well as veterans. It's a great thing for the site that there is a huge number of games, but that also comes with issues of overload for people. Clicking dislike/hide on a game is reactive and it puts the onus on a user making the effort, while I'd prefer something a bit more pro-active if a way to achieve that exists

I can't really think of anything pro-active that isn't necessarily complicated/would create issues down the line. and I don't think categorizing games as like/dislike/whatever being reactive is that big of a deal. The average user will probably play like, I dunno, 20-50 games I guess? The effort of clicking a like/dislike button is very minimal compared to the effort of having to learn a new game, or even playing, and it could just be optional.

That aside, the original reasoning for my suggestion is to unclog the non-favorited games section, because, it can get too big if you play a lot of games, and you can't really remove these games. You can just add everything else to favorited games, but that kinda defeats its purpose.

To put things in simple terms, this is my suggestion:

Allow us to remove games from the non-favorited section.

You can do this in multiple ways, here are some that come to mind:

1. Just plainly allow users to remove games from non-favorited section, the same way you can remove favorited games. Then, you could find these games again by adding them from the search bar. The same way you would add a game you've never played before. I think this should be quite simple.

2. Create 3 categories for games, liked, neutral , and disliked. Instead of having a favorites/non-favorites. I think that this would help BGA more in the long run, as it intuitively makes more sense than a binary favorites/non-favorites, IMO.

If I could suggest a somewhat more general solution that would also solve this use case: Allow us to create our own groups/lists of games. There are a bunch of other use cases that would be solved by such a feature as well: maintaining a backlog of games to be played, grouping by player counts/preferences, etc.

That would be optimal, although I'm not sure how difficult it would be to add such a feature.. Regardless, I hope such a feature, or something similar is taken under consideration. I think I'm sitting right now at 173 different games played on bga. So, the lack of categorization is already an annoying issue and is discouraging from playing new games.

Sorting favourites would be nice, but it would still be strange to have a "dislike" category in your favourites.

I think everyone will disagree whit me. But, in multiple time, Cas. Game seem way too complex and hard to win once (everyone know that game so well, but not me ).
