Game progression

Hello,

We are working on the implementation of Fluxx and we are currently wondering what the game progression should be.

In essence if you don't know the game, there is absolutely no way to know when the game will finish. What's the standard way of doing that for BGA?

Set 50% right away and be done with it?
Start at 0% and add x% (like 20%) for each turn until we reach 80%, so that players will have to play at least 3 rounds before conceding?
Start at 50% and add x% ?
Or even, never reach 50%?

Something more clever (like 1 - 1/n) with n being the number of turn or something like that?

Having played Fluxx, I'd suggest using the size of the draw pile as a proxy for progress. It's not entirely reliable, but (as you say) that's the way of the game.

This means that the progression might be non-linear during the course of a game -- is that a problem?

I would say it's your best judgement call.

IMO the 3 rounds to 50% sounds good, and then the (1 - 1/n)

It does not have to be very precise. IIRC it is mainly used to determine how many ELO point players will get in case of a neutralized game. Unless there is any other usage that I don't know?

You can't concede a game before 50% progression (but conceding is only allowed when playing a 2-player game).
