Board Game Arena

The current translation of the English "Good game!" into French is "Bravo bien joué !" (created by our Sourisdudesert).
This BBJ can be seen as insulting when, in fact, the opponent has not played well. Is there a better (and more victory neutral) word choice available?

Or should I just use: "Thanks for the game!" (Fr: Merci pour cette partie !)

"Good game" can also be interpreted as sarcasm in English, so I don't think there's a way around that.

I would have expected "Good game" to have been translated to "Bon jeu" though, since it's more of a comment on the game (i.e. it was close, good play from both sides).

"Bien joué" sounds more like a translation for "Well played" to me (which is not available on the site, but perhaps should be). According to Wikipedia, they're both possible though: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodgame

I use "Thanks for the game!" when the game feels not 'good enough' (due to luck or skill) to say gg.

You would abreviate good game in gg.
I think Bon Jeu, abreviated in bj is also someting that can be misunterpreted. I tried it a few times, and some american players asked for meaning, with some ???!!!???
(Bon Jeu could be used when the game starts, and Bien Joué at the end but it does not change the acronym issue)

Now, IRL I've seen players around a table saying GéGé for gg or good game, just like in some inline video games when they say it literally. I think it's something we will accept now.

If we, french, want to make it nicer, we will write it plain text : Bonne Partie. Bien Joué. Merci pour la partie. .... or ... gg !

Pour traduire correctement, il convient d'abord de déterminer dans quelles circonstances un anglophone conclut une partie par « Good game! ».

Pour moi, une bonne partie signifie :
* qu'aucun joueur ne termine la partie en retard, c'est-à-dire qu'un retard ponctuel a pu être rattrapé par un jeu plus rapide, ou par l'utilisation d'un joker temps ;
* que les discussions éventuelles du chat ont été compréhensibles et convenables ;
* qu'aucun joueur n'a exploité un bug connu pour influer sur le résultat de la partie ;
* qu'aucun joueur n'a favorisé outrageusement un autre joueur ;
* que les partenaires d'une équipe n'ont pas essayé de s'échanger frauduleusement des informations.

Auquel cas, je peux annoncer « Merci pour la partie », ce qui signifie que j'aurais plaisir à rencontrer de nouveau les autres joueurs de la table.

Anyway how can we interpret GG as something else than meaning good game or great game. By context of sentence it can only mean good game ( GG) as BJ ( bon jeu ) in French too at end of a game it can mean nothing else I guess

Too saying good game in English it does not mean to be sarcastic to say so lol
