With the new Swiss tournament system it has been possible to play Carcassonne the way it was designed to played. Several tournaments have already happened though those of us organising still tinkering with the timing...

Okay, so timing. For the next tournament I have set the overall time to 7 days but I have implemented the time zone rule to see if that makes a difference. I am going to keep a note here for other organisers about how often the games ran out of time...

In the January 2021 tournament I ran I used the basic international rules and set the timing to 7 days for a 3-4 player tournament, which is 21 hours on each players clock. There were approximately 84 games, 13 of which timed out (you can spot these in the log because they 3-2-1-0 scores), 23 were skipped by one of the players (have a 1-1-1-0 scoring). Obviously way too high.

The https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=74805 tournament which finished in Apr 21 had 184 games, 50 finished with time outs, and 43 with skipping, so the use of the playing hours option definitely helped reduce skipping. I will be pushing the time out (21h per player) for the next one.

Okay, I thought it would be fun (for me - I can't speak for anyone else) to do a commentary over a game for the first tournament, picked because they were the best finishing players.
