Calypso is now in alpha

Post by mandrel »

Hello all,

Calypso is now available in alpha! Reviewer interface accessible here: https://boardgamearena.com/reviewer?game=calypso

Calypso is a trick-taking card game for four in fixed partnerships, using four identical 52-card decks shuffled together. The rules for winning tricks are a bit unusual compared to other trick-taking games, due to the fact that each player has their own unique trump suit. The primary aim of partnerships is to complete 'calypsos', which are sequences of cards 2-A in their trump suits from cards they win in tricks, and to prevent their opponents from doing the same.

You can read a little overview of its history on game historian/inventor David Parlett's website https://www.parlettgames.uk/histocs/calypso.html where he says of it:
Of all "invented" card games not invented by me, Calypso is the one I most enjoy, and most wish I had thought of first.
Any bugs/suggestions can be filed: https://boardgamearena.com/bugs?game=1366 and I'll do my best to address in a prompt manner.

Happy playing!

I don't have access to Alpha. Can someone please invite me to some tables?

I have added you to the alpha (if you are still interested) - apologies it has taken quite some time (!), I have been absent from the site for some while

Apologies all that this has been left hanging for some time in my absence, but I will be making a few small updates soon to make things a little nicer and hopefully get this pushed over to Beta.

First off there are user preferences to change the overall game colour (card mat + display areas), as I realise the overwhelming amount of purple may be off-putting to some. There are a range of choices so hopefully something suitable for everyone!

This change should now be live, so do no let me know if anyone gets the chance to try this out soon.

Sometimes things get in the way, forcing one to abandon less important things like this. Good to see you are able to pick it up again!
