What's next?

Post by Lunalol »

Well, I'm not promising you anything.
What's next?

I am looking for a wargame with the following specificities:

-> A theme that I like (WWII, D-DAY, SF, others?)
-> A progression in learning the rules (like USE)
-> Lots of scenarios (like USE)
-> Friendly and available authors, developers (like USE)
-> An available license (GMT for example)
-> Preferably with a VASSAL module available (for the map and tokens), oh sorry: like USE

It looks a bit like mission impossible.
That's why I chose USE.

Give me your suggestions :)

How about USE but on a smaller, more targeted section of the map with streamlined naval rules?

No Retreat: The Russian Front by GMT
- multiple scenarios
- low counter density
- medium complexity
- Vassal module is available
*several other titles in the No Retreat series (North Africa, Italy, France & Poland)

I would have loved to play ADSL and World in Flames, but there must be a licensing issue.

What do you mean ? More developed naval rules ?

I have thought about them, could be a nice idea.
It's not too hard to implement.
But if licence is available, I will let work to another dev, I don't really like this sort of games.

Could be a nice idea too, I don't know this game.
Problem: it's a card driven game, really hard to implement, you must code each card.
I'm old school, I have trouble getting used to cards in wargames (except D-Day at Omaha Beach, a reference!)

That is a lot of criteria, and I would add an extra one - it needs to have a realistic chance of holding up under the kind of play it will receive on BGA. You are taking games that are mostly played solo and putting them on to a site where they will receive hundreds of plays with rotating groups of players. So much as I enjoyed East Front II I know it won't hold up (it only survived a dozen plays when I played it with a single opponent).

Perhaps reach out to Rachel Simmons to discuss the possibility of converting Napoleon's Triumph?

Paths of Glory is a GMT game and that would make a nice partner to this...
