Spectator metadata?

In my game, I produce an end-of-round "report" that includes things like the table number and the date. The date is formatted according to the current (i.e. viewing) player's language and country settings, as extracted from this.players_metadata.
I recently had call to visit a table (checking on a bug) which is in the end-of-round state. When my javascript tried to produce the report, it failed because it could not find my language info, because my info was not indexed in this.players_metadata. Is there a more reliable way to access the current player's language setting, especially if they are a (possibly brand-new) spectator?
