Does it matter which way your Champions are facing when playing attack cards? And if so, how can you even tell which way they are facing?

Why I'm asking:
I was playing Rath's Burrow just now. Before the attack, I stood right before the opponents champion, so the first jump took me over and behind her. But then I didn't get to do the attack action nor the second jump, the game went right to playing the next card.
I then played Sneak Attack next, used one movement point to move one space clockwise around the same opponent champion, ended my movement at this point, and again the game did not let me attack.
I was adjacent to the opponent the whole turn. I can't find anything in the rulebook about orientation. So is me not getting my attacks a bug, or is there a rule reason for that?

What's annoying is that this combo would've won me the game...

No.

The only answer i can give, is that the opponent was experimented lily adjacent to a teammate and with this combo no attack is possible against her...

And there's the answer - that's exactly what happened. That'll teach me to pay closer attention next time.
