I posted a suggestion about this in the bugs. Basically, the beginner variant is currently the default, when it's clearly indicated in the rules that it is something to consider for your first game (or first few games). However this means that for the majority of games, or even when creating a tournament, we need to be careful to switch to the expert variant, when that in fact is supposed to be the default for this game. Please change it to the default in the settings as well.
