Losing ELO with wins?

Post by tiagovip »

Hello! Today I finished 3 games of Tranquility, all wins - and on each one of them we lost 10 ELO. Two games were with 3 sea monsters, and one with 3 plus the Jagged Rocks expansion.

What is going on?

Can you see the fireworks in the distance? They are closing.

Tranquility now uses ELO calculations that are more like Hanabi.

This is a terrible scoring format. I'm ok losing points if we lose, but there is a clear win/lose pattern with this game, which is unlike Hanabi. Scoring should be changed back to positive for a win but add negative for a loss

But how do the ELO work now? What the Elo evaluates as a good game? Number of cards in hand? In Hanabi you have a clear score, on Tranquility is just win or lose - there is no score.

I don't mind the ELO changing, just want to be clear on what is good/bad.

Hanabi uses a pseudo ELO to determine ELO calculations.

You probably won't be able to have a good enough score anymore due to your very high ELO. Or if you can, you would have to play with several low ELO players to reduce the average ELO at the table.

Interesting. But my partners on the game also lost the same amount of ELO. Shouldn't be different for them?

Still, since you mentioned "average", I venture to say that their ELO aren't a factor.

It is.

The Hanabi ELO calculation is explained somewhere on the forum. And I would guess that it is about the same.

Actually it is not. Solar Storm's ELO system is somewhat jumbled up on its own. Explained in the game forum.
