Gopher is a very simple game. Gopher rules: Place a checker next to exactly one enemy checker and no friendly checkers. Last player to place a checker wins.

I designed Gopher specifically for BGA. I wanted a game that would be easy for me to program and easy for players to learn. I hope you will enjoy it.

I skim all the offerings that show up in the Beta window of the Games page and this is the first one I recall that came with a 0/5 complexity rating.

That's probably an achievement in and of itself.

(Truth be told, though, just looking at the board gives me the feeling that the game play could get pretty complex toward the end.)

Thank you. Yes, Gopher is one simple game. Sometimes simple games develop problems such as strong first (or second) move advantage. Or a trick is discovered guaranteeing victory for Player 1. Gopher, on an even sided board, is still holding strong. I am not a good player of games, but I can see by how good players are beating me that tactics and strategy are starting to develop. Gopher is a real game. Of course opening play is opaque, but I see this as a good thing. A flurry of semi-tactical opening moves sets up a random, fresh board for mid-game play.
