Shooting the moon shouldn't end the game if you don't win

Post by KingJakeoffsuit »

That's pretty much all I need to say, When you shoot the moon, if it would send someone to zero, and you wouldn't be sitting in first place, it should instead, add 26 points on to your score. It did this in the newest Windows Hearts and it's fantastic. Sucks when you can't shoot the moon because someone is down at 25 while the rest are above 60.

While it's terrible sport for players to shoot for 3rd or 2nd, this version would just lead to dragged out games and ultimately waste time if 1st is far ahead. A common strategy when a player drops below 26 and the leading player is far ahead (at least +26 from 2nd) is to pass in a way that allows anyone to shoot. In such cases the losing 3 players are cooperating to drag down the leading player, which is a fundamental part of this game (utterly destroyed by the ELO distribution system on BGA btw). Making such a change actually promotes selfishness, straying away from what is in essence a team game.
