Viticulture Essential Edition is now on Beta

Post by bartoleo »

Hi BGA players.

I have the pleasure to announce that Viticulture Essential Edition is available in beta version.

Viticulture Essential Edition is a worker placement game in which the players play the role of winemakers who over the seasons cultivate vines, harvest grapes and produce wines, with which to fulfill orders.

The game has more than one expansion.
This first release implements the base version of the game.
I'm working on solo game and then I'll start working at Tuscany expansion.

Go to game page

Enjoy it!

Oooh...can't wait to try it.

What do the options mean?

I assume enabling the mama and papas means you get the choice from randomly dealt m&p cards.

But what is friendly mode?

Great news, I'm a big fan of the physical game.

I've already submitted some feedback: https://boardgamearena.com/bugs?game=1384

The rulebook explains this: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f2tekc23yvb2 ... nd_r10.pdf
Viticulture rulebook wrote:Friendly Variant
An optional rule for a more casual game of Viticulture is that a player may only choose a bonus action space if he completes that bonus (i.e., play a second summer visitor card) or if there is no other available space on that action. Thus players may not place workers on bonus action spaces to block other players as they can do in the standard rules for 3-6 players.

Huh. I've played the physical game plenty over the years, but discarded that rule from my memory. Not sure why that even exists. I don't know that I've ever seen anyone take a bonus space without using it in a real game.

Oh well, still could probably have that description in there somewhere so people make the connection. Good to know that I can keep it "unfriendly." ;)

Because if you were going to take the action anyway, blocking someone from getting the bonus also benefits you. There is no point in not occupying the bonus space first.

Even if you only had 1 Summer visitor card and wanted to play it, you would always go to the bonus space to prevent your opponents from playing their 2.

There is an error in game play.
A player who chooses Wake Up position #7 gets extra meeple, but on NEXT Turn must choose Wake Up position #1.
The Beta version allows that player to choose first AND to pick any Wake Up Position.
This is incorrect per the Rules.
Please fix. Otherwise it's great. Thanks.

This is not a rule in the base game at all. There is no restriction, players can take the same wake-up action every time as long as it's available.
Viticulture rulebook wrote:Spring
Starting with the player who has the first player token and proceeding clockwise, each player will place their rooster on an open row of the wake-up chart to determine player order for the rest of the year.

Year End
Players age their grape and wine tokens, return workers to their vineyard mats, collect residual payments, remove rooster tokens from the wake-up chart, and rotate the first-player token counter-clockwise. When any player reaches or exceeds 20 victory points, the game will finish at the end of the current year.

Spring Actions

Wake-up chart: Starting with the player holding the first-player token and moving clockwise, each player places his/her rooster on an unoccupied wake-up row. The number represents how early that player wants his/her workers to wake up in the coming year. 1 is the earliest time and 7 is the latest. For workers, the later the better; for the vineyard owner, perhaps not.

You might be confusing it with the Tuscany expansion, where this is the case.

Hi All,
thanks for all your tests and bugs submissions.
I'm sorry that it's not perfect, but I'm working to improve it.
I muyst admit that there are many cards that are causing more problems than I expected

I'm working on fixing this bug: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=43844
#43844: "GETTING 2 VISITOR CARDS IN FALL WHEN YOU HAVE A COTTAGE."

I played it wrong all the time... if you have cottage you cannot see the first card and then choose the deck to draw the second one.

So in next deploy, if you built cottage, you'll choose both 'decks' with one action/move.

Sorry

Thanks for your work and good luck! That's what beta is for.

Viticulture is not an easy game to implement, both in terms of mechanics and expectations. :)
