Hi, I'm trying to understand how some decisions are made in Multiplayer Tournaments.

Taking https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=88457 as an example:

- How are "skipped" players selected? I initially thought that the best ELO players were skipped in priority (makes sense), but this is not what happened in Step 5. It doesn't look like the player's results in the previous step played a role either. Is the choice made randomly among players who weren't skipped before?

- How are ties broken when deciding whom to eliminate among players that had the same score? There is no example in this tournament but I've seen cases in other tournaments, most often when somebody is ejected on time and all other players finish first (but 1 or 2 are ejected regardless).

- Again on step 5 of the example tournament, why were 3 players eliminated instead of 1? Is there a requirement that no player is skipped twice (which would have been violated if we had eliminated one player and proceeded with another step with 2 skipped players), or that there are no more than 2 steps with a single match?

Indeed, this is random, priority to players not skipped before.

In case where the game itself doesn't give tie breakers, or when there is an ejected player, this is indeed random.

No, this is an exception on the penultimate step, the number of qualified players can go up or down, in order to be able to finish the tournament; otherwise, there would be again and again skipped players and the number of steps would continue.
This happens only on tournaments where tables are restricted to a fixed number of players (here, 4).

This is pretty nice to be full randoms for games which got 80% of luck component.

Giving an advantage to top players seems unfair.

Hi I am not sure if I am in the right place - this is my first post here.

I was winning a tournament. The opponent and I were playing live together on line. I want to address an issue of cheating and really poor sportsmanship.

- Aymerouz - he will kick you from the game if you are winning. He will admit to doing it to win. He has done it to me.

How is this acceptable?
The tournament owner cannot disqualify a cheating player. What's with that??

I have reported by email but cannot now find the player to do the report from his profile without inviting to a game - ?? Also, what's with that?.

I was about to buy membership.. but if cheating like this is acceptable, I'm really pleased I haven't parted with any money.

I chatted with the table owner who was very kind and helpful. He also said it is unfortunate and he has had it happen to him.

I dont care who you are - this is not acceptable in any ones world. Is it?
Have I joined a site with cheats as my opponents and an admin whose TOS claim to '" do their best to ensure fairness" but allow this?

If you are out of time, you can be kicked. Maybe not the nicest thing to do, but nothing wrong in it.

Thanks for reply. I do not know how I could possibly be out of time. My pc is on all the time and bga is one of the constant tabs. LOL

I do not sleep much.. I am a napper - so I am consistent in checking in.

Regardless.. you are right - it is not nice but I do not agree there is nothing wrong with it.

In my case, I was playing live with him. You should not be allowed to kick someone while they pay you the courtesy of being there live for you and are interacting with you. If I was a no show - that would be fair enough. This player didn't come to the table for hours. The whole thing was deliberate.
And apparently - its ok. Like I said, glad I dont pay to be cheated on.

It amazes me that someone is so desperate to win a dice game and measure their self worth decided by some fake ranking they cheated for in an on line game?

It very rude. It is also cheating and I cannot see the point of entering comps at all when this is acceptable. It means the tourneys are bs too.
It means your winners aren't winners - they are cheaters.. lol (well some, not all - but how would you know)..
This of course all leads to false rankings, no?

There was fixed 6 hours for both players. Like said, you were out of time, not him. There is no automatic loss in case of running out of time, like in many other sites, but the one with positive clock can take the win if he wants. Or he can stop playing and win when the overall time runs out. So there is nothing wrong in it.

It's not a nice move to keep on playing, and kick you only when he is going to lose, but again, he has every right to do it. Calling it cheating is just wrong.
