What does hint mode mean?

We have 2 options under Hint Mode - snapped or free. What do they mean?

"Free" means you can drop the cubes wherever you want on the board.
"Snapped" means you can only associate a cube to an icon, which allows a lot of nice stuff like a summary view of the hints.
