Saying gl to our opponents in a game of chess, might be taken as arrogant . Do you wish gl because you already think you better than your opponents ? and so they need lucks to win you. That why I said it can sound arrogant I. My opinion it's best to say all the best . Referring to all the best ( in your attacks and defenses STRATEGIES

Well, you can only chat in the games themselves without premium... Shouldn't prevent you from saying gg AFTER the game since that uses table chat anyway.

About conversation about saying gl here a funny one. I play lot of backgammon yathzee yam games that involve lucks from dices. I always the first to say hello gl to any opponents, but majorities of opponents I challenge in that kind of games as it's all about luck none will wish me gl but I get wishing gl in chess lol, I think that's hilarious

Well, I would almost use only hf most of the time for strategy games in simple mode, bc often you write glhf...

There is a trend in all forms of communication to not actually think about what is being said, but merely to say the social niceties or the form being used at the time. "I could care less" is a great example; people use it to say they don't care at all, when it literally means there is a level of care below their current level. Being "head over heels" about something indicates being in an awkward, unstable situation even though having one's head located above one's feet (and heels) is the stable position. "Good luck" in a 100% skill-based game is another. It is a social nicety to say good luck in any competition regardless of the amount of luck involved. I tend to take people saying it as not thinking about what they are saying, but at least being nice and saying something. Much better than the people who don't say anything (or even respond to a greeting of "have fun").
