Hi,
OK. I understand that there is a stated 24 hour time limit on inviting more than 50 people total in all tournaments that someone is running. But in reality, it is not 24 hours. I have gone over 2 days before. I just want to know the actual mechanism for the timeframe so that I don't have to keep checking every few hours to see if I am out of the penalty box yet.

So, 3 questions:
1. Is there a real specific time limit rule on releasing the invite limit, or is it just 24-48... hour-ish?
2. Does trying to invite someone (in order to see if the block has been released yet) extend the limit's time frame if it has not been reset?
3. Is there some point where you have enough tournaments and establish that you are not an evil spammer where the limit is loosened, or does it exist forever for everyone?

I am not complaining about the limit. I get it. I just want the real answer so I can plan, and the 24 hour line is just not real.

ok. I'll add a 4th question.
I got the brilliant idea to invite 48 people, wait over 24 hours, and then try to add 48 more. What happened? On the second person, I hit the invite limit even though I had not invited 50 people in a 24 hour period. This sucks. I wanted to get my last 40 invited for a tournament that starts tomorrow night. I hit the 50 limit on Monday @5:30 and was not released until after 3:00 on Wednesday.

Can anyone please point me to the actual rule so I know what it is? 24 hours is not real for the 50 invite limit, and it is not real for releasing from the invite limit. Is there any rule at all, or is it just arbitrary?

I assume the answer to 2 is yes

I assume the answer to 3 is no But I hope they consider implementing some loosening of those limits. After all, if you are a premium user, have played hundred or thousands of games, organized dozens of tournaments, invited hundreds of players to them and nobody ever complained about spam... changes are that you are not a spammer.

They probably don't publish the rule to avoid abuse of the service.

I received a partial answer from BGA support on 8/20/21 so I'll post it here for folks:

"Hi !
the limit is 50 invitations on a 24h period. Each invitation is time-stamped, so after you reach 50 invitations, you must wait 24h for each invitation to "gain" a new one. But the check for the 24h period is done periodically around midnight, so in the worst case scenario, you may have to wait 48h hours.
This is what must have created confusion; we just fixed this behavior, this should be in production during next week.

So it appears that each invite has it's own individual clock and they clear any clocks already over 24 hours and any blocks created around midnight GMT each day. That's why I kept noticing being released around 3-4pm PST and why invites over more than a 24 hour period accumulated anyway to create a block.

My recommendation to folks is just to plan for 48 hour turn arounds when inviting groups of 50+ people. I have a set of around 200 max I'll invite and I just do waves and plan 10-12 days out.

No comment on being labeled a "non-spammer" someday. Guess I'll cross that off my aspiration list.
