Bad Behavior in arena

Post by McKenner1122 »

Players who quit (concede) as the opponent makes a winning roll before the opponent can “stop” and thus ‘win’ are trash.

It’s a crap tactic.

Conceding is now a 'tactic', wow. Maybe I should try that tactic more to increase my winrate. Oh, wait a second...

Why does it even matter? The result is the same?

Conceding is exclusive to 2 players and is similar to pro chess players, who often do that when they know they can't win.

Please be specific in the use of the terms quit and concede, as they are two completely different concepts on BGA.

Quitting is leaving the game before it is finished, with the system not knowing how the game would turn out. The system must then assume that the quitter is a losing player, and all other players are tied as winners. ELO is adjusted as if the game had only been played partially (based on game completion percentage), and the quitter incurs a karma penalty.

Conceding is also leaving the game before it is finished, but the system knows how the game would turn out. It is only available for two-player games. The player conceding tells the system that they do not believe they can win, and therefore the other person gets full credit for a win and they get a full loss for their ELO adjustment. There is no karma penalty because it actually saves both players time.
