I just lost a game when my opponent drew a hand of four cards.
I understood the rules to be that you must draw a hand of five cards without artichokes to win.
Am I wrong?

Wow, straight up removing artichokes with 4 cards in hand? That's a surprise. Rules say "no artichokes" only. No number of cards.

If ur deck and discard pile dont have 5 cards, just draw as many as u can.
So he won because he only had 4 cards to draw, i guess.

From the rules:

When you refill your hand at the end of your turn, if none of the cards are Artichokes, you immediately win the game!

It doesn't specify that you have to refill your hand to five. In fact, in the previous paragraph it says "if both your Deck and Discard Pile run out, you may end up with fewer than 5 cards in your hand."
