I do not know if this has been brought up before but I am wondering if it may be possible to consider an auto switch to turn-based when someone doesnt take their turn and have been afk for only a few minutes.. ie attending a baby or child, answering a phone call or the door etc.

After xx time, rather than expelling a player immediately, the game would auto change to turn-based for xx minutes ( possibly decided by the opponent with a minimum of one or 2 minute wait or similar) then if no play occurs bc the player hasnt returned the game auto expels.

That way the game is booting players not opponents which atm omay contribute to red thumbs or bad rep
. I realise the timer is in place for this .. but its just a suggestion for a little extra time when someone refuses your request for turn based.

Thoughts anyone?

Automatically switching to a different game mode is a bad idea; it should always be a conscious decision of the players.

This could also be easily abused. Player A only plays on the weekends, in real time. Player B creates a real-time game, and intentionally times out. If the system automatically switches to turn-based, player A is now forced to play on weekdays -- something they don't want. If they don't play, then player A is penalized for their timing out, when it was player B who created the situation.

A nice compromise would be to add on expel pop-up another button : "switch to turn based instead" so people are reminded it's a solution.
