Red thumb system and its consequences

So I get a red thumb whenever I say anything in chat. This is because there might be a player out there that dislikes seeing anything in chat, whatever it is. So the reasoning of these players is: I will red thumb this guy so in the future I get paired up with silent players and not with him.

They dont ask you to shut up during the game, they just give you red thumb.

So the logical consequence is, to avoid my reputation eventually hitting rock bottom, is not saying anything and just playing silently to avoid red thumbs (that you will get anyway when you defeat certain players, they just dont want to be paired up with you again and give you a red thumb, not that they mean any harm with it)

As developers, are you aware your red thumb system is promoting this?

Of course, if the goal is to have players shut up and play, rather than being social during games, the system is perfect and working as intended.

There is an high chance your way of talking to people just isn't considered nice by most people.

So yeah, a way to resolve that problem is for you to not talk anymore unfortunately (some player do /mute all in League of Legends at the start of every game, and that work for them). Doesn't mean the system is flawed.

you can only give 1 red thumb out for every 5 green ones you've given (I believe this is the ratio), so people cannot simply give red thumbs to people who talk at all during a game, the content of what you say is likely to blame. In general I've seen the most red thumbs given out in cooperative games, where comments in chat can be very easily taken as undue criticism...people often are playing to relax and not think too hard.

The one starting a conversation wont be me, that is for sure. I'll join the silent crowd and let others do the talking and reap in the red thumbs. Heck, I might even give red thumbs myself to participate.

I quite often initiate chat in games (though sometimes I just want to shut up and play) and have never been given a significant number of red thumbs. (I'm always on 100% karma.)

So I would guess it's either the tone of what you say, or the fact you keep chatting when others don't respond. If other players are not in chatty mood, I stop posting.

You could also try creating games yourself and adding that they are chat-friendly in the notes. (A friend of mine does this.)

I talk in games often. Never had any trouble. I might have been lucky though.

Can you tell when someone red thumbs you? Do you get an alert? I didn't think it affected your Karma here

Hello Gabusan . I don't agree with one thing you said, when u said " Of course, if the goal is to have players shut up and play, rather than being social during games, the system is perfect and working as intended." My simple question to you is . Why is it that BGA set up on our screens on our left bottom screen that sign 🗨️?. To comunicate in games. Too expect players to talk to each others in games we not machines
