Why not use Discord or even a BGA group? Plenty of people would not use their real-life Facebook account for this, they'd have to create a fake one if they wanted to join. Or they simply don't even use Facebook (anymore).
There is already a popular BGA Discord server:

BGA Groups are nowhere near fit for purpose to run something like this with league tables etc and arguably a Facebook group give more flexibility than Discord for things like this however the MAIN reason is that the league was born through Facebook and mostly comprises of UK members from the BGTC UK Facebook group. We are branching out and looking to get people from round the world joining in however Discord is not really much of a thing in the UK and the vast majority of the current players would have no interest in signing up to it to participate when Facebook does the job well already

I didn't even know FB offers that functionality. We use a google sheets document for tables + stuff in Allround League. But of course that means tables+stuff is separated from communication of the members (which is in BGA-group and sometimes discord - but not required).
So maybe you can explain here in short what that event actually IS (a bit additional info to "40-50 players, 10 games")?

Sure so in a nutshell:
The league runs for 10 rounds. Each round is a tournament on a game on BGA and you receive pts based on how far you progress. At the end of 10 tournaments the person collectively with the most points wins.
When BGA releases a new game we have a poll on the group as to whether it should be used as a tournament round. If it is then the tournament is created and players have 48hrs to sign up for it.
Tournaments feature a Swiss group stage followed by an elimination phase. Minimum of 4 Games, Maximum of 7.
Player counts for games are based on BGG recommended values.
