Disconnecting players should lose their game

I played a game of Go last night and I was winning by a huge margin when my opponent disconnected. Yes, occasionally a player gets disconnected for genuine reasons but this tactic I often see at a chess website. A losing player doesn't have the courage to resign so they simply disconnect or leave the website. In these cases the disconnecting player loses the game. On this website disconnecting is going to be used by unfair players to get a draw.

As soon as your opponent is out of time, you get a button in the header of the game, whether you want to kick him. Doing so makes him lose the game and get an extra penalty, and you are counted as winner (assuming there is no different handling than that in Go, which I’d be highly surprised about, but then it would be game specific and better be addressed in that game forum).
You seem to just have left at some point too (which is dangerous, because if the other guy returns, he can kick you if you don‘t see it within your available time), so at some time the game was cancelled because nobody made a move. You have three options: Kick, abandon (exiting the game as if it hadnt happened) or convert to turn based. The last 2 are in the game menu in the top right corner.
Btw, making claims, such as knowing how the page and community works here, after being a member for 1 day and 5 games played, wont help your point tremendously.

I think he didn't say that the opponent was out of time though, making the idea of it was a no limit one.

If that's the case, there is a warning about playing with no time limit with people you don't know, so they were warned.

A bit off topic, but in the same vein, is there a way of conceding the game without incurring in a penalty or loss of karma? For times when you're losing so badly you prefer to accept defeat.

On the menu you can concede game on 2 players games.
On multiplayer, you can ask for collective abandon, but other players will probably refuse if it's because you are losing

I don't think you do lose karma for conceding the game; i never have done. The only time I've seen that happen is if it coincides with going over time.

As others have said, if someone disconnects and because of this runs out of time, any player still in the game can expel them.
This causes the player who has left to be declared the loser, and all other players to be declared joint winners.
The only time it's annoying is in a (say) 4 player game when I'm winning, Player 4 disconnects and is kicked out, but then instead of winning I end up being joint winner with players 2 and 3, giving me fewer ELO points etc. But this doesn't happen very often.
